Video Games Take the Tedium Out of Therapy
|
| |
If you’ve ever broken any bones in your body, you know how tedious and painful it can be to get your limbs or fingers back to their usual working functions. Now, thanks to Wii (pronounced “wee”), one of the hottest Nintendo video game systems, you can make your way back to recovery with a wireless remote and a smile!
This latest craze (according to an article reported by The Associated Press) has been coined “Wiihabilitation,” a new method of rehab therapy that utilizes the popular Wii video gaming system for patients recovering from strokes, broken bones, surgery, and even combat injuries.
Physical therapists have found that the Wii’s unique motion-sensor controller allows patients to use the same body movements needed for traditional therapy sessions. This is great news for those sick or injured who often have to endure painful, monotonous, and repetitive exercises to regain their strength and endurance.
Plus, these new video games are even being used as training tools for surgeons since they can simulate various surgical procedures.
Read on to discover what Dr. Northrup has to say about this hot new trend that’s rocking the medical industry!

A Salute to Mothers and Daughters!
I lost my mother four years ago when I was forty-nine. And I sure do miss her. Mother-daughter relationships are one of the most intimate we will ever have and often the most complicated. One of the most painful things I realized when my mom died was that I would never again be loved as unconditionally (in this life) as a mother loves.
A daughter’s need for her mother is biologic, and it continues throughout her life as this letter from one of my newsletter subscribers exemplifies. Not only was our mother’s body the source of life for us, but it was her face that we looked to, to see how we were doing. By gazing into our mother’s eyes and experiencing her response to us, we learned crucial first lessons about our own worth.
I believe that all mothers and daughters are old friends on a soul level who are here to help each other bring love, skill, and discipline to the parts of our personalities that require further development in this lifetime. Because each of us was born with different gifts and challenges, no two of us will ever have exactly the same idea of what is right or what is best.
|
But we can work toward a lifelong relationship in which each supports the full evolution of the other regardless of her life stage or age. (Note: Sometimes this requires the courage to go it alone without your mother’s or daughter’s approval. This path, though difficult, can be incredibly strengthening!)
Here’s to all the women before us—Happy Mother’s Day to all!
Would you like to gain a better understanding of the wonderful, complex, and timeless relationship between mothers and daughters? Dr. Northrup’s Mother-Daughter Wisdom DVD is now available.
In this live presentation—as seen on Public Television—Dr. Northrup covers a rich range of topics that are designed to bring mothers and daughters to greater consciousness, including: the five facets of feminine power, how to end the mother/daughter “chain of pain,” the power of forgiveness, and how to deal with a difficult mother or daughter.
Here’s another Mother’s Day gift idea: Dr. Northrup’s comprehensive book, Mother-Daughter Wisdom: Understanding the Crucial Link between Mothers, Daughters, and Health. It’s a great read for every woman who’s had a mother—whether or not she has children of her own, and even if her house is filled with boys!
