At the end of January, I taped a brand new special for Public Television based on Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom. Although it was cold that evening, the audience was warm and supportive, and filled with beautiful women of all ages who were flourishing! It was quite a thrill for me. I’m looking forward to June when all of you can see the show, feel the energy of this special night, learn about the latest research, and hear my advice.
Antidepressants Discredited Again
In 2008, we learned that the benefits of antidepressants, including Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft, had been greatly overstated.1 Former FDA psychiatrist Erick H. Turner, M.D., uncovered some startling information about Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). In reviewing all the medical literature, he learned that 94 percent of the reports showing the therapeutic benefits of SSRIs were published compared to only 14 percent of the reports showing either no benefits or inconclusive results (of taking SSRIs). When he weighed all the literature, Dr. Turner determined that SSRIs were no more effective than a placebo for treating most depressive patients. British researchers using the Freedom of Information Act uncovered identical findings in 2008.2 And now, a study released in 2010 confirms these results for both SSRIs and tricyclic antidepressants.

In the News—Stop Circumcision
In the Women’s Wisdom Circle this month, I talk about a subject that I’m very passionate about. It’s one that my woman’s wisdom just can’t support—routine circumcision.
In the weeks ahead, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) are likely to publish a recommendation that all infant boys undergo circumcision. This is a huge mistake. Circumcision is an unnecessary procedure that is painful and can lead to complications, including death. No organization in the world currently recommends this. Why should we routinely remove normal, functioning tissue from the genitals of little boys within days of their birth?
Learn more in “Stop Routine Circumcision,” available to everyone this month.
Second Sight
My colleague Judith Orloff, M.D., just released a new book called Second Sight. It’s a riveting story of Dr. Orloff’s exile between two worlds—the intuitive realm and mainstream medicine—and reveals Dr. Orloff’s journey from an intuitive child, alone with abilities she didn’t understand, to an esteemed intuitive psychiatrist who dares to defy medical taboos.
As a child her vivid dreams and intuitions were whispered about behind closed doors. As a medical student, she denied the “shameful secret” by immersing herself in the absolutes of science. Then as a psychiatrist, Dr. Judith Orloff received proof of the value of her gift when an intuition foretold a patient’s suicide attempt. In this remarkable self-portrait, she takes you on the journey of a lifetime, one that brought her from ignorance to understanding, from loneliness to peace.
Second Sight teaches you how to uncover your intuitive gifts and recognize intuitive experiences in everyday, such as déjà vu, synchronicities, and dreams. And like Dr. Orloff, you’ll soon be on a quest to reexamine your life, your beliefs, your future…and your own wondrous potential.
Revival® Soy Shakes and Soy Chips
Here’s something you might not know about soy. Several research studies indicate that soy consumption can support healthy weight loss. Soy protein is a low-fat, high-quality protein that, when combined with exercise and a healthy diet, makes an excellent “partner” in a successful diet plan. Soy protein has a number of properties that can aid in one’s weight loss goals. Here are three:
- Soy protein helps you feel fuller longer. Eating soy protein may work by causing your stomach to send an “I’m full” message to your brain, helping to reduce the urge to snack.
- Soy protein is “low-carb.” Soy is the only vegetable that contains more protein than carbohydrates!
- Soy protein is a complete protein. Soy protein is the only plant protein that’s a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids in the right balance for your body’s needs.
If you’ve tried the Revival® Soy Shakes before, why not try Revival® Baked Pasta Soy Chips? They’re a satisfying healthy snack baked to crispy perfection and then generously flavored with unique seasonings for a taste that is unforgettable. There are eleven varieties to choose from, and every one is low-glycemic.
First time Revival® customers can get a free variety pack (11 bags) of Revival® Soy Chips with their order of 30 Revival® Soy Shakes. If you join auto-ship, Revival® will also waive the shipping on your first order.
